About Ziro Music Festival
Ziro is the district headquarter of Arunachal Pradesh .It is situated 167km from the capital, Itanagar. It is one of the oldest towns in Arunachal Pradesh in a valley.It is situated at a height of over 5500 feet above sea level surrounded by misty mountains. Ziro is the home of the Apatanis. They are simple, friendly and hospitable people with an interesting culture and legacy. They are a non-nomadic, agrarian tribe who maintain a responsible relationship with nature. They cultivate permanent wet land cultivations instead of dry land cultivations which involves burning forests. Ziro valley is full of paddy farms and is known for its unique paddy cum fish cultivation. They use traditional irrigation methods. Farmers rear fish in the knee-deep water. Keeping them company are the adorable, shy, and harmless Indian Bisons.
Around here, they are called Mithun and considered auspicious and are very tasty too! In the olden days, there was a strange custom of facial tattoos for Apatani women and one can still see a few old women with tattoos.
In terms of literacy, Ziro has highest numbers of schools in Arunachal Pradesh with an average literacy rate of 66%, higher than the national average of 59.5%.
Ziro festival is treated as the most fun making outdoor music festival of India. It is the platform of National and International musicians to showcase their talents of music during the festival. Besides this it permits the local musicians of North-East states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland an opportunity to showcase their talents.
Visitors from all over the world including Indian residents come to enjoy the festivity of music in the remotest state of India.
Climate during the festival time remains pleasant as the temperature does not go beyond 27 ‘c during the time. Some small rain fall may also occur during the time , but it can not disturb the functions in bad way.
Person willing to join the festival may reach to the place by bus which is running between Itanagar to Ziro. One can reach itanagar from Guwahati after reaching here through flight from Kolkata and New Delhi. Trains can also be a mode of travel to Guwahati from Kolkata and New Delhi.
All the attendees of the music festival at Ziro require permission to attend the function whether they are Indians or out siders. They have been provided the different kind of permission letters to attend the musical festival.
