Ullambana
About Ullambana
Ullambana, or the Ghost Festival, is the most prevalent Buddhist celebration. On this day, it is trusted that the "Doors of the Hell" are opened and the dead souls visit their friends and family. Amid this celebration, contributions are made to the spirits of the dead and to the ravenous apparitions to bring favorable luck and good fortune. It is commended on the fifteenth day of the seventh month of the lunar date-book.
Ullambana is a celebration of freedom, which advocates and fortifies the idea of dutiful devotion. The word 'Ullambana' is a translation of the Sanskrit word signifying 'deliverance from agony', and particularly alludes to the salvation that is conceded to tormented souls in hellfire. On this day, Buddhists offer supplications both to their withdrew ancestors and to their living guardians and senior citizens.
