About Mount Roskill

Mount Roskill is both a volcanic height and the suburban region inside the town of Auckland, New Zealand. The mountain shaped because of volcanic interest some 20,000 years in the past. Its height, positioned in gift-day Winstone Park toward the southwest cease of the suburb, is 110 metres in height. It is one of the many extinct cones that dot the isthmus of Auckland, all a part of the Auckland volcanic field. The scoria cone changed into built by using hearth-fountaining from craters. Lava flowed from the base of the cone to the north and to the northwest.

It was the site of a Maori pa fortified village, and was called Puketapapa the flat-topped mountain inside the Māori language and as Pukewiwi. The most important southern crater become excavated in 1961-1962 and full of a water-deliver reservoir. The reservoir is not in energetic service, and is simplest maintained as an emergency supply. The suburb, named after the Mount, is located seven kilometres to the south of the city centre, and is surrounded through the neighbouring suburbs of Three Kings, Sandringham, Wesley, Hillsborough and Mount Albert. The Mount Roskill shops are placed at the intersection of Mount Albert and Dominion Roads.
