Painkuni Festival
About Painkuni Festival
It begins with kodiyettu - the lifting of the formal banner. The celebration is commended in the periods of March/April. Amid the Painkuni Festival, colossal fiber glass figures of the Pandavas the five children of Pandu in the Indian epic Mahabharata will be put at the eastern access to the sanctuary. According to conviction, the figures are set up to satisfy Indra, the Rain God.
Painkuni is a ten-day celebration in which exceptional customs are offered each day. On the ninth day, the leader of the Travancore Royal Family plays out the palli vetta illustrious chase custom, close to the Vettakorumakan Temple in the Fort zone. The celebration closes with the aarattu parade to the Shanghumugham Beach for the custom submersion of the symbols in the ocean. The male individuals from Royal Family of Travancore, including the ruler, will escort the gods in the parade.
