Kaapse Klopse 2024

Kaapse Klopse is a fine specimen of Minstrel festival that consists of entertainment shows which includes comic skits, iety acts, dancing and music. The wonderful city of Cape Town plays host to it every year with pomp and gaiety. Also called Coon Carnival by Cape Town inhabitants & local authorities, this festival is a real treat to attend and participate with friends and family. The origin of Kaapse Klopse traces back to 1848, when ex-slaves whited up their faces and sung songs parodying the behaviour of important local figures.

Festivity takes control as over 13,000 minstrels crowd the streets with colourful and attire. They usually carry colourful umbrellas or play an array of musical instruments. The prime attractions of this fiesta are the street parades with singing and dancing, costume competitions and marches through the city to congregate in Greenpoint Stadium where more celebrations and party atmosphere prevail.
