About Dadasaheb Phalke Award
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India's most elevated honor in silver screen. It is displayed yearly at the National Film Awards function by the Directorate of Film Festivals, an association set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The beneficiary is respected for their "exceptional commitment to the development and advancement of Indian silver screen" and is chosen by a council comprising of famous identities from the Indian film industry. Starting at , the honor contains a Swarna Kamal Golden Lotus emblem, a shawl, and a money prize of ₹1,000,000. To begin with displayed in 1969, the honor was presented by the Government of India to celebrate Dadasaheb Phalke's commitment to Indian silver screen.
Phalke 1870– 1944, who is famously referred to as and frequently viewed as "the father of Indian silver screen", was an Indian movie producer who coordinated India's first full-length include film, Raja Harishchandra 1913. The primary beneficiary of the honor was on-screen character Devika Rani, who was respected at the seventeenth National Film Awards. Starting at , there have been 49 awardees.
