About Guruvayur Aanayottam

Elephant race at Guruvayur Temple, privately known as 'Aanayottam' envoys the start of the 10 day yearly sanctuary celebration celebrated at Guruvayur Sree Krishna sanctuary in the long stretch of February-March. The members in this remarkable race are none than the enormous elephants. It is a race to win the respect to convey the Thidambu - the copy of the icon of Guruvayoorappan, on every single uncommon event of the sanctuary for the following one year.
