About Strawberry Festival in Meghalaya
Red roses may not be the only gift option with a group of young people deciding to take lovers to a different and unique way of celebrating this upcoming Valentine’s Day by introducing them to strawberry fruits grown in the state. Calling themselves the Young Minds Association YMA, these youths will be organizing a first of its kind ‘Valentine Strawberry Festival’, which will be held at Umiam Lake Sports Complex .
According to them, the festival is not just to entertain families and couples but the main objective is to promote the poor local farmers who are cultivating the fruits despite the hurdles faced by them. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, YMA president Richard Lyngdoh said, “We have decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day by helping the poor farmers of the region.” He said the strawberry fruits cultivated by farmers from different parts of Ri Bhoi district will be showcased in as many as 20 stalls during the festival.
