About Kaliyoottu Mahotsavam

 

The Vellayani Devi Temple, placed on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram metropolis close to Vellayani Lake is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali.  The temple is cited for the Kaliyoottu Mahotsavam which occurs as soon as in every three years and is widely known over a -month duration about fifty six to 65 days. The remaining pageant held became on March-April and subsequent festival can be in March- April .

 

Kaliyoottu is a ritual artwork shape associated with Goddess Bhadrakali belief mainly famous in the temples of Thiruvananthapuram district. The competition celebrates with the parable of Goddess Kali and demon Darika, one of the main rituals of Kaliyoottu is the Thottampattu. It calls for 48 days for singing the Bhadrakalithottampattu absolutely.

 

The maximum essential rituals associated with Kaliyoottu festival are Kalamkaval, Uchabali, Dikkubali and Paranettu - which marks the end of the Kaliyoottu.  At Vellayani temple the Paranettu can be hung on the 9th day of Medam Mid- April.
