About Ezhara Ponnana
One of the exquisite sights related with the sanctuary celebrations of Kerala is the 'Ezhara Ponnana' parade held amid the yearly celebration at Ettumanoor Sree Mahadeva Temple in Kottayam. 'Ezhara' implies seven-and-half and 'Ponnana' implies brilliant elephant. Every one of the seven elephants is two feet high and the eighth one is of one foot as it were. Henceforth they are as one called seven-and-half elephants.
Celebrated in the Malayalam month of Kumbham February – March, it is the evening of the eighth-day lovers can witness the parade of these brilliant elephants. The arattu service is hung on the tenth day on Thiruvathira asterism. Caparisoned elephants and customary sanctuary ensemble are likewise part of the parade.
