About Amman International Theatre Festival

One of its kind in the Middle East and North African region, the Amman International Theatre Festival is an annual extravaganza of theatrical performances by drama groups. First held in the year 1994 under the patronage of the Ammans Al Fawanees theatre company, this drama fiesta has acquired a indelible space in the cultural scene of the country. The plays are primarily in Arabic and English. This is a trusted platform for the artistic expression and exchange of creative ideas among some of the most talented theatre professionals in the Arab countries. Further, it contributes positively to the artistic environment of the region by facilitating free flow of imagination and manifestation. The countries that frequent this event by sending theatre groups are- Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Sweden, Turkey, Italy and Switzerland. As a result the traditional drama skills get a global exposure that sees a finer expression in the works later on. Apart from staging plays, Amman International Theatre Festival organizes workshops on sound techniques, improvisation and dance presentation. The experts share their views and experiences on different aspects of dramatics thereby adding the value to the festival.
