About Sulphur
Sulphur is named for the sulphur mines that were worked in the territory in the 1900s. In 1867, Professor Eugene W. Hilgard, an accomplished geologist who was prospecting for oil and different minerals, led exploratory borings in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana and found sulphur in the caprock of a salt arch. In any case, the sulfur was underneath a few hundred feet of grime and sand trap containing fatal hydrogen sulfide gas, which made mining to a great degree perilous. Rehashed unsuccessful endeavors to sink traditional mining shafts in the 1880s brought about the loss of numerous lives.
In 1890, the German foreigner Herman Frasch developed and protected the Frasch Process of mining sulphur, utilizing concentric channels to pump superheated water into the ground, condense the mineral, and power the fluid to the surface with compacted air. The principal liquid sulphur was conveyed to the surface on Christmas Eve of 1894. Sulphur soon started to be mined on a modern scale, with the liquid mineral permitted to set and dry in colossal vats 100 by 400 feet, at that point impacted and pulled by rail to the Sabine River for shipment.
