About Chelsea
Chelsea is a city in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States, directly across the Mystic River from Boston City. By 2013, Chelsea's estimated population was 36,828. Chelsea is the smallest city in Massachusetts in terms of total area. Chelsea is a diverse, working class community in which high level industrial activity occurs. It is only one of three Massachusetts cities, where most populations identify with Lawrence and Hovelwell as Hispanic or Latino.
After tampering with bankruptcy in the 1990s, once the struggling industrial city had reversed the long term decline and enjoyed sustained economic growth in recent years. Due to its relative strength and proximity to Boston, Chelsea added more than 1,200 homes from 2005, mostly for loft-style apartments and small families or young professionals. There is also important office, retail and restaurant development throughout the city.
The field of Chelsea by the Massuchri tribe is called the first Vinemas which means "good spring pass", who lived there. It was settled by Samuel Maverick in 1624, whose cadence is considered the first permanent settlement for business by Boston Outfit. In 1635, Maverick left his home and farm, sold Wingamatam to Richard Bingelham. This community remained a part of Boston, until it was closed in 1739, when its name was named after Chelsea in London, England.
