About Manawatu-Wanganui
Manawatu-Wanganui is a region in the lower half of the North Island of New Zealand, whose major population centres are the cities of Palmerston North and Whanganui. It is run via the Manawatu-Wanganui Regional Council, which for trading purposes is known as Horizons Regional Council. In current years both the Whanganui River and Whanganui District were renamed to higher mirror the correct spelling in Maori, however the area is presently spelled with out an "h". Horizons councillors narrowly voted in opposition to adding an 'h' and spelling Manawatu with a macron in 2013. In 2018, the Regional Council agreed to feature both 'h' and macron, and made this advice to the New Zealand Geographic Board.
The NZGB agreed in September to just accept the notion, and asked public submissions for one month, ending in December 2018. The vicinity covers all or part of ten territorial authority regions. Parts of 5 of those are included by 5 other areas of New Zealand, the most of any location. In descending order of land region the territorial authority districts are Ruapehu, the important parts of Tararua and Rangitikei, Manawatu, Whanganui, Horowhenua, and small components of Stratford, Waitomo, and Taupo.
