About Juanacatlan
Juanacatlan is a town and municipality district in the central area of the Mexican province of Jalisco. Juanacatlan gets its name from the Nahuatl word "Xonacatlan", which implies place bottomless in onions or onion place from "Xonaca" for onions and "Tlan" for spot. The pictograph of Juanacatlan incorporates the image of the Tlaxcala, speaking to the fights and the spots where the Tlaxcaltecans went with the Nuno de Guzman campaign, after the success of Mexico.
In spite of the fact that "spot of onions" has been professed to be an essentially improper interpretation of the indigenous name as the onions were brought by the conquistadors, the root of the name was in actuality an alternate, local, plant-a kind of jicama or cebollita as is usually known in the area. The Jalisco essayist Juan Jose Arreola deciphers the name as "spot of the great onions".
In prehispanic times, the Xonacatlan locale was a piece of the Tololotlan kingdom, which was itself part of the primitive Tonala kingdom, one of four kingdoms that made the Chimalhuacana league. Starting in 1531, the locals of the Xonacatlan district were changed over and proselytized in the Christian confidence by the religious request of San Francisco: Friar Antonio de Segovia, Fray Juan de Padilla, Fray Andres de Cordova and Juan de Badillo. That equivalent year, Father Segovia established the community of Our Lady of the Assumption in Tetlan, close current Guadalajara.
