About Bhalki
Bhalki is a City and Taluka in Bidar district in the state of Karnataka, India. First mention of the town was made as "Bhallunke" in the vachanas of 12th century sharanas. The sharana Kumbara Gundaiah was from Bhalki who was a piece of Bhakthi development. Bhalki's significance in the 1857 war is played out at the simple end of the war, when one of Tatya Tope's devotees is captured and attempted by the Nizam, in 1867.
This individual was Madho Rao, nom de plume Rama Rao, the nephew of Shrimant Shahu Chatrapati, the Maharaja of Satara. He was otherwise called Jung Bahadur, as alluded by Sir Richard Temple in his journals. Amid a pursuit, authorities found that Jung Bahadur conveyed a few papers in English and Marathi, interpretation of a deed of assention and a seal saying he was the ‘Chatrapati of Satara'.
Jung Bahadur raised a multitude of more than 1500 individuals in and around the woodlands of Bhalki, spending up to 20,000 Rupees. A jamadar got a month to month compensation of 40 Rupees, a sepoy 30 Rupees and a sawar 10 Rupees. He selected warriors in the towns issuing them Kaulnamas or arrangement letters, in which he requested that young fellows go along with him in the assignment of "killing the British and recovering the lost grandness of the Royal group of Satara".
