About Eilenburg
Eilenburg is a town in Germany. It lies in the district of Nordsachsen in the Free State of Saxony, around 20 km upper east of the city of Leipzig. Eilenburg lies at the banks of the waterway Mulde at the southwestern edge of the Duben Heath untamed life park. The town is subdivided into three urban districts: Berg, Mitte and Ost and six provincial districts named Behlitz, Hainichen, Kospa, Pressen, Wedelwitz and Zschettgau. Eilenburg Castle was first referenced on 29 July 961 out of a record by Otto I. as civitas Ilburg. The name has Slavic beginning and means town with dirt stores. A settlement of tradespeople most likely created from the eleventh century in the region of the stronghold.
In the 16th century Eilenburg was integral to a few occasions of the Protestant Reformation. Indeed, even George, Duke of Saxony, considered this town an important spot "namhaftigen Ort". Martin Luther was in Eilenburg multiple times and considered it a favored grease pit. In 2002 Eilenburg was hit hard by surge of the stream Mulde. The harms added up to 135 million euro. The development of flood insurance offices was increased after the flood. In 2008 the development estimates finished after ventures adding up to 35 million euro. Eilenburg was the main city in Saxony totally secured against flood. Since 1 August 2008 Eilenburg lies generally amidst the then recently shaped Nordsachsen northern Saxony District.
