About Granby
Granby is a town in southwestern Quebec, found east of Montreal. The populace as of the Canada 2011 Census was 63,433. Granby is the seat of La Haute-Yamaska Regional County Municipality. It is the fourth most populated town in Monteregie after Longueuil, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, and Brossard. The town is named after John Manners, Marquess of Granby; today it is most well known for the Granby Zoo and its milestone wellspring of lake Boivin. The region on which Granby is found was depicted as normal prairies and backwoods made out of powder, fir, maple, hemlock and birch, there was additionally a little bog a kilometer and half uphill.
The zone was occupied sporadically by traveling First Nations. In 1792, Loyalists were allowed consent to colonize the Eastern Townships. In January 29, 1803, the Executive Council of Quebec surrendered the Township of Granby to Colonel Henry Caldwell and his 97 associates. John Horner, the primary occupant who settled on the site of the present town landed in 1813. Horner constructed a sawmill close to the Yamaska River. After twelve years, in 1825, he opened a general store with Richard Frost. Frost followed the official designs later that equivalent year. Granby turned into a fused region in 1816 and a town in 1971.
