About Worgl
Worgl is a metropolis within the Austrian kingdom of Tyrol, inside the Kufstein district. It is 20 km from the global border with Bavaria, Germany. Nearby Itter Castle became the web site of one of the last European and most unusual battles of World War II. The Battle for Itter Castle became fought on May five, 1945 through surrendered Wehrmacht troops, the United States Army, Austrian Resistance warring parties and previous French political prisoners in opposition to the 17th Waffen-SS Panzer Grenadier Division.
The leader of the surrendered Wehrmacht troops, Major Josef Sepp Gangl, changed into killed for the duration of the war and is buried in Wörgl's municipal cemetery.
