About Wolfsberg
Wolfsberg is a city in Carinthia, Austria, the capital of Wolfsberg District. The location of Wolfsberg belonged to the estates inside the medieval Duchy of Carinthia that were ceded to the Prince Bishopric of Bamberg, likely already via Emperor Henry II in 1007. The fortress above the city changed into first noted as Wolfsperch in an 1178 deed of St. Paul's Abbey within the Lavanttal.
The adjoining agreement became the administrative centre of Bamberg's Carinthian territories and in 1331 acquired city privileges by way of Prince-Bishop Werntho Schenk von Reicheneck. During the Protestant Reformation the Bayerhofen Castle residence, first referred to in 1239 and rebuilt inside the 16th century, have become a middle of Lutheranism, which despite the fact that became suppressed with the aid of the Counter-Reformation. In 1759 the Habsburg empress Maria Theresa received all Bamberg lands in Carinthia. Wolfsberg Castle changed into bought by Count Hugo Henckel von Donnersmarck in 1846 and rebuilt in a Tudorbethan style.
