About Dalby
Dalby is a town and territory in the Darling Downs area of Queensland, Australia. Dalby is inside and is the regulatory focal point of the Western Downs Region. At the 2016 enumeration, Dalby had a population of 12,719. Dalby was established in the mid 1840s at a place referred to locally as "The Crossing" on Myall Creek, a tributary of the Condamine River. The principal pioneer was Henry Dennis, who investigated the area and picked arrive for himself as well as other people in the locality.
Today a monolith in Edward Street indicates the area where Dennis camped. A little settlement was established to help voyagers traveling north to close-by Jimbour Station. The wayfarer Ludwig Leichhardt visited the territory in 1844, on his approach to Port Essington. In February 1853, the New South Wales government sent the Deputy Surveyor General Captain Samuel Perry to the zone to overview a township.
In August of the next year, Mr Charles Douglas Eastaughffe touched base with a report under the Seal of the NSW Government authoritatively declaring 'Dalby' a township. Mr Eastaughffe was later delegated Chief Constable and stayed in Dalby until his retirement. The name of the town is accepted to originate from the town of Dalby on the Isle of Man and reflects movement from the Isle of Man in the mid-19th century. The name was obviously picked by Captain Samuel Perry when he studied the settlement in 1853.
