About Childers
Childers is a town and territory in the Bundaberg Region, Queensland, Australia. At the 2016 enumeration, Childers had a population of 1,584. The Childers region was customarily possessed by the Dundaburra gather who are a piece of Kabi clans of the Wide Bay Burnett in the northernmost territory. Their relatives still live in the area. Europeans initially landed in the region during the 1850s.
Pastoralists set up properties not long after to raise cows on the ripe terrains. In those days, sugar was as it is currently the key product developed in the Isis. The town was set up in 1885. The Isis railroad line to Childers opened in 1887 and was critical in the early improvement of the region. Childers Post Office opened on 14 November 1887. The town is purportedly named after Hugh Childers, British statesman, who was the Auditor-General of Victoria in the 1850s.
Childers has seen ious genuine flames throughout the years. The 1902 fire crushed a great part of the town focus. The town stood out as truly newsworthy in June 2000, when a torchist set fire to the Palace Backpackers Hostel, killing 15 vacationers. The Palace Building revived in 2002, and incorporates a dedication to those lost in the blast, a Regional Art Gallery and an Information Center. The Childers Library opened in 2000 with a noteworthy restoration in 2014.
