Woodland, city, arrange 1862 of Yolo locale, central California, U.S. It lies in the Sacramento Valley, 20 miles 30 km northwest of Sacramento. It was built up in 1853 by Henry Wyckoff and was first known as Yolo City; the present name, proposed by its zone in a woodland of oak trees, was grasped in 1859 when the important mail station was opened.
