About Sylvester
Sylvester is the district seat of Worth County, Georgia, United States. The populace was 5,990 at the 2000 enumeration. The city is the area seat6 and business focus of Worth County and is asserted to be the Peanut Capital of the World because of its shelled nut production. Before being outstanding as a speed trap town; Sylvester began as a "wonderful no place" in 1893 and was first called "Isabella Station". At the point when the Brunswick and Albany Railroad came through southwest Georgia, the district situate was Isabella, which is found three miles north of the railroad.
Gradually, notwithstanding, the focal point of exchange and trade moved south along the railroad. Two different towns, Poulan and Sumner, jumped up along the railroad in Worth County, yet it was Isabella Station that developed and thrived the speediest. In 1894, the natives voted to change the name to "Sylvester". In 1898, Sylvester voted to fuse and on December 21 of that year the Georgia Legislature consented to consolidate it as a city.
