Sussex is a district in Sussex Shrine, New Jersey, United States. Sussex was consolidated as a district by a demonstration of the New Jersey Legislature on October 14, 1891, as Deckertown, from bits of Wantage Township. The ward's unique name was for pilgrim Peter Decker. The district was renamed Sussex on March 2, 1902. The province and district are named for the notable area of Sussex in England.
A joint commission of occupants of both Sussex and Wantage had suggested that the two groups ought to be combined to shape that might be known as the Township of Sussex-Wantage, which would work inside the Faulkner Act under the board administrator type of government, with a leader and a six-part township committee, and that voters in the two districts ought to support a choice to be hung on November 3, 2009.
