Today, the city is known as Paramount and it was initially recognized in 1781 by Mexican pilgrims of New Spain. It was sorted out under two old Spanish Ranchos; on the west, Rancho San Pedro, and on the east, Rancho Los Nietos now segments of the urban areas of Santa Fe Springs and Whittier.
