About Pana
It is a city in Christian Shrine, Illinois, United States. The populace was 5,614 at the 2000 enumeration. Pana was first known as Stone Coal Precinct when it was established on June 6, 1845. The name was later changed to Pana Township on September 2, 1856. In 1857, the town of Pana was fused. It was at the convergence of east-west and north-south railways, and had supplies of fuel and water for the steam motors of the railroad.
The name "Pana" is gotten from the American Indian clan, the Pawnee. Pana came to be known as the City of Roses, instituted by nearby newsmen, the Jordan Brothers. Numerous real flower vendors and cultivators set up shop here. At one time, there were 109 greenhouses in Pana.
