Merlin
About Merlin
The little villa of Merlin is found upper east of Grants Pass and is the home base for some suppliers and angling guides. This and the way that Merlin is near the 84-mile section of the Rogue River put aside by Congress under the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1968, is the reason Merlin is known as the "Door To the Wild and Scenic Rogue River."
Likewise found adjacent is the well known Hellgate Canyon on Galice Hwy. where the acclaimed "Hop" fragment of the motion picture "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" featuring Paul Newman and Robert Redford and numerous different Westerns were recorded. Above Merlin is Grave Creek, the beginning stage for the 32 mile "wild" segment of the Rogue River.
Extraordinary Fishing and boating on the white waters are however a portion of the exercises accessible in the Merlin territory. A standout amongst other climbing trails around is the acclaimed Rogue River Wild and Scenic Trail which begins at Grave Creek above Merlin and runs downstream 40 miles through the Wild and Scenic segment of the Rogue River to Foster Bar.
