Indio

It is a city in situated in the Coachella Valley of Southern California's Colorado Desert locale. It lies 23 miles east of Palm Springs, 77 miles east of Riverside, 127 miles east of Los Angeles, and 148 miles upper east of San Diego. It is around 98 miles north of Mexicali. The word Indio is Spanish for Indian.

Indio was once alluded to as "the Hub of the Valley", which was the Chamber of Commerce trademark in the 1970s—today the moniker is the "City of Festivals" due to social occasions held in the city, most remarkably Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The City of Indio came to fruition in light of the need of a midpoint for the Southern Pacific Railroad between Yuma, Arizona and Los Angeles.
