Gibson City
About Gibson City
Gibson City is a city in Ford Shrine, Illinois. The site of Gibson City was acquired and platted by Jonathan B. Lott in 1869. In 1870, Lott fabricated a home and a mail station there, and a few stores and a grain lift were built. Both the Gilman, Clinton and Springfield Railroad and the Chicago and Paducah Railroad achieved the town in 1871, enabling its populace to develop.
Around the same time, one of the railways marked an agreement that paid Augustana College, situated in Paxton at the time, a commission of $1 per section of land on all railroad arrive sold to Swedish pilgrims. Lott named the place Gibson after the family name of his significant other, Margaret Gibson Lott, and City was included later by the mail station office.
