About Convent
Convent is a registration assigned place in and the area seat of St. James Parish, Louisiana, United States. As of the 2010 registration, its populace was 711. It has been the area situate since 1869.The people group was initially named Baron when initially settled 1722 to 1739. It was the area of the St. Michael's Convent Order of the Sacred Heart from 1825 to 1932 and the area of Jefferson College, 1831 to 1931.
St. Michael's Church Historic District and Jefferson College now a Jesuit withdraw focus called Manresa House of Retreats, alongside a few memorable homes in Convent, are recorded on the National Register of Historic Places. The previous Jefferson College worked in Convent. Among its graduated class was Etienne J. Caire, who claimed the E. J. Caire Store in Edgard and was the Republican gubernatorial candidate in 1928 against Huey Long.Caire established the Manresa withdraw focus in 1922.
