Bourne is a town in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, United States. The populace was 19,754 at the 2010 statistics. Bourne was first settled in 1640 by Ezra Perry as a piece of the town of Sandwich.
It was formally consolidated in 1884, the last town to be joined in Barnstable County. It was named for Jonathan Bourne Sr. 1811-1889, whose precursor Richard Bourne spoke to Sandwich in the primary Massachusetts General Court and was the principal minister to the Mashpee Wampanoag on Cape Cod.
The town lies at the upper east corner of Buzzards Bay and is the site of Aptucxet Trading Post, the country's most seasoned store. It was established by the Pilgrims in 1627 at a site somewhere between the two streams which isolated Cape Cod from whatever remains of the state.
