Bismarck

Bismarck is the capital of the U.S. province of North Dakota and the area seat of Burleigh County. It is the second-most crowded city in North Dakota after Fargo. In 2015, Forbes magazine positioned Bismarck as the seventh quickest developing little city in the United States. Bismarck was established by European Americans in 1872 on the east bank of the Missouri River. It has been North Dakota's capital city since 1889, when the state was made from the Dakota Territory and admitted to the Union.

Bismarck is over the stream from Mandan, named after a notable Native American clan of the area. The two urban areas make up the center of the Bismarck-Mandan Metropolitan Statistical Area. The North Dakota State Capitol, the tallest working in the state, is in focal Bismarck. The state government utilizes more than 4,000 in the city. As a center of retail and social insurance, Bismarck is the financial focus of south-focal North Dakota and north-focal South Dakota.
