About Brig Glis
Brig, officially Brig-Glis is a historic city and is a municipality in Brig district in the Canton City of Valais in Switzerland. The present municipality was formed in 1972 through merger, Brig city, brigade and glyce. Algine Town of the Year Association is involved in the implementation of the Alpine Convention to achieve sustainable development in the Brig-Gliss Alpine Arc with other Alpine cities. Brigade-Glys was awarded Alpine Town in the year 2008. Brig's official language Swiss variety of standard is German, but the main spoken language is the local version of the Alemannic Swiss German dialect.
The prosperity of the brigade is tied to the Simplon Pass, so that in 1517 gradually suppressed a more ancient village of nets, in contrast to the formation of a different parish at Church Glyce, a few minutes away from the city. Its medieval name was Briga Dives. The inauguration of the carriage road across the tunnel under Simplon 1807 and Pass 1906, as well as the fact that above the brigade is a less fertile and less fertile part of Upper Wallace then much more stable for tourists, the city Significance and size increased greatly.
