Kiruna

Kiruna is the northernmost city in Sweden, located inside the province of Lapland. It had 17,002 inhabitants in 2016 and is the seat of Kiruna Municipality in Norrbotten County. Esrange Space Center become established in Kiruna inside the Nineteen Sixties. Also in Kiruna are the Institute of Space Physics and Lulea University of Technology's Department of Space Science. Archeological findings have shown that the vicinity round Kiruna has been inhabited for at the least 6,000 years.

Centuries before Kiruna became based in 1900, the presence of iron ore at Kiirunavaara and Luossavaara have been recognised through the neighborhood Sami populace. In 1696, Samuel Mört, a bookkeeper of the Kengis works, wrote at the presence of iron in the two hills. The Swedish senior enforcement officer and cartographer and mapper Anders Hackzell mapped the Kiruna place in 1736 and gave the mountains of the place their Swedish language names Fredriks berg and Berget Ulrika Eleonora, after the King of Sweden Fredrik I and his wife Ulrika Eleonora.
