It is generally said in many circles that India is a land of temples as there are a lot of them in every nook and corner of the country. There are many types of temples right from the small tree-type ones to large, massively decorated sculptures. Some temples are also very well known as a lot of celebrities visit them during the year. There are also others that are popular due to some particular celebrity visiting them. In the following sections, we take a look at some temples of the country that are generally frequented by celebrities and well-known persons of the country.

1. Sri Venkateswara Swamy Vaari Temple

Popularly known as the Tirupati Balaji temple, it is located in the hill town of Tirumala in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. it is a typical Vaishnavite temple dedicated to Lord Venkateswara who is supposed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple was built as a mark of respect for Lord Vishnu who is supposed to save mankind from the wrath of Kali Yuga. Therefore, the place is also known by the name of Kaliyuga Vaikuntham and the deity is also called Kaliyuga Prathyaksha Daivam.


Many film stars and politicians regularly visit this high-profile temple of the country for making their prayers. Filmstar Shilpa Shetty, Amitabh Bachchan, his family and industrialists like Anil Ambani are regular visitors of this temple. It is also one of the richest temples in the country and every year it makes a lot of donations for many social causes. 
 

2. Siddhivinayak Temple

This famous temple of Mumbai is a favorite among many celebrities of the town. The temple is more than two-centuries-old and is very much revered by a lot of people. Lord Ganesha is the main deity here while there is also a Hanuman temple in the complex. The number of devotees of the temple increased manifold after 1978. The sudden surge of devotees could not be explained by anyone but old-timers recall that many wishes have been fulfilled after praying here.


Ace Indian cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar is a regular visitor at this temple along with many film stars like Deepika Padukone and Nana Patekar. The temple holds a very important place in the culture and ethos of the city.
 

3. Sri Harmandir Sahib

The Harmandir Sahib which is popularly called the Golden Temple is situated in Amritsar, Punjab. It is the holiest Gurdwara Sahib or Sikh temple and the most important of all the Sikhism pilgrimage sites. The dome of this temple is plated with gold and hence the name. The complete structure of the temple has been made around a man-made pool which was built by Guru Ram Das in 1577. 


The temple is frequented by Sikh as well as non-Sikh celebrities and sportsmen in large numbers. Even many foreign dignitaries have visited the shrine. Bollywood actors, Akshay Kumar and Ranveer Kapoor whose mother was a practicing Sikh have visited this temple many times.  
 

4. Kamakhya temple

Better known as the Kamrup-Kamakhya Temple, it is a temple that is dedicated to the mother goddess Kamakhya. The temple is one of the oldest of the 51 Shakti Pithas of the country and is situated in the Nilachal Hills of Guwahati, Assam in the country's north-eastern part. It is a very important pilgrimage place for the Hindus and has a special mention among Tantric worshippers. 


Many prominent dignitaries are regular visitors of this temple. Renowned singer and poet, Bhupen Hazarika used to visit the temple quite often. Ex-Chief Ministers of the state like Tarun Gogoi and Prafulla Mahanta also visit this temple before any important official work to seek the blessings of the deity. 
 

5. Deori Mandir

This small temple which is situated 60 km from Ranchi town in Jharkhand on the Ranchi-Jamshedpur highway is very much frequented by a lot of people. The main deity of this temple is Maa Durga. Earlier, it did not enjoy so much popularity but after the success of erstwhile team India cricket captain, MS Dhoni, the temple also became popular. 


It is believed that the cricket player has immense faith in the powers of this temple and all of his spectacular cricketing feats are also attributed to its blessings on him. In the recent past, the temple has been considerably renovated and a lot of people visit it due to its new-found popularity and faith.


These are some of the famous temples that are highly frequented by celebrities, sportsmen, and politicians of the country. However, there are some other temples in this list too like the Sai Baba Mandir of Shirdi, Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai and the popular Vaishno Devi Mata Mandir in Jammu and Kashmir.
