If you are in Kolkata, you can visit many historical places that serve testimony to its rich legacy. 1. Dakshineswar Kali Temple
It is situated around nine and a half kilometers from the airport on the eastern bank of the Hooghly river. It is a 19th century Kali temple built by Rani Rashmoni and can be quite calm and serene due to its setting. You can also enjoy a boat ride for reaching this temple if you are coming from its western end. It has quite a large compound that houses twelve shrines in it along with relics from the life of Ramakrishna Paramhansa who was a saint of that time.
2. Jorasanko Thakur Bari
It is located 7.6 kilometers away from the airport and is the ancestral home of the legendary poet, Rabindranath Tagore. For all literature buffs, this place can be full of nostalgia as the poet was the first non-European to receive a Nobel Prize. It houses the Tagore museum and is maintained in a way that reflects the Tagore family's way of life at that time. Visiting it can be very pleasurable and joyful
3. Eco Park
If you are an adventure lover, a visit to the Eco Park can be highly entertaining. The 104- acre park is located at a distance of 10 kilometers from the airport at Rajarhat and it has three main parts in it. The ecological area has grasslands, urban forest, and wetlands in it. In the second region, there are open spaces and theme gardens whereas; in the third part there are urban recreational spaces. You can participate in many types of games in the play area and rejuvenate yourself.
4. Mother House
To get a peek into the life and teachings of Mother Teresa, you can visit The Missionaries of Charity's Mother House that is a superb holy pilgrimage place. It was established by Mother Teresa in 1950 for the service of the underprivileged. It also houses a museum where the Mother's personal belongings are preserved for display.
5. Victoria Memorial
It is a museum in honor of the late Queen Victoria and was built after her death. The grand marble structure is a treat for the eyes and it is at a distance of about 17 kilometers from the airport. It has 25 galleries that display rare artifacts from many periods. The garden outside the Memorial is well decorated with a large variety of plants and flowers. You can spend some quality time over here.
