About Tarragona
Tarragona is a port city situated in upper east Spain on the Costa Daurada by the Mediterranean Sea. Established before the fifth century BC, it is the capital of the Province of Tarragona, and part of Tarragones and Catalonia. Topographically, it is verged on the north by the Province of Barcelona and the Province of Lleida. The city has a populace of 201,199. One Catalan legend holds that it was named for Tarraho, oldest child of Tubal in 2407 BC; another ascribes the name to 'Tearcon the Ethiopian', a seventh century BC pharaoh who crusaded in Spain. The genuine establishing date of Tarragona is obscure.
The city may have started as an Iberic town called Kesse or Kosse, named for the Iberic clan of the district, the Cossetans, however the recognizable proof of Tarragona with Kesse isn't certain. William Smith recommends that the city was most likely established by the Phoenicians, who called it Tarchon, which, as per Samuel Bochart, implies a fortress. This name was most likely gotten from its circumstance on a high shake, between 75– 90 m over the ocean; whence we think that its portrayed as arce potens Tarraco. It was situated on the waterway Sulcis or Tulcis, on a straight of the Mare Internum, between the Pyrenees and the stream Iberus.
