About Berga
Berga is the capital of the comarca district of Bergued, in the region of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It is flanked by the districts of Cercs, Olvan, Avia, Capolat and Castellar del Riu. Berga gets its name from the Bergistani, an Iberian clan which lived in the zone before the Roman success. The Bergistani were first quelled by Hannibal in 218 BC. They revolted twice against the Romans and were twice crushed; after their second uprising, a great part of the clan was sold into servitude. Livy specifies their key town, Castrum Bergium, which was most likely the antecedent of the present-day town of Berga.
Berga was administered by viscounts in the Early Middle Ages and had its very own tallies from 988. Berga was sold to lord Peter II of Aragon in 1199. In May 2012, the town chamber passed a movement announcing King Juan Carlos 'persona non grata' following a progression of outrages including the illustrious family, most remarkably the lord's ongoing elephant chasing excursion to Africa amidst Spain's developing subsidence. Berga is maybe most well known for its customary celebration of "La Patum", a festival which happens each Corpus Christi, going on for five days. On July 3, 2010 the world's first Free Software Street was introduced in Berga, amid a service gone to by Richard Stallman.
