Nigel

Nigel is a small gold mining town in Gauteng Province, South Africa. The town is on the edge of the territory known as the East Rand. A rancher, businessperson and miner, Petrus Johannes Marais, having perused Sir Walter Scott's The Fortunes of Nigel at the time see Nigel, shaped the Nigel Gold Mining Company after the revelation of gold on the homestead Varkensfontein in 1886.
