About Maraisburg
Maraisburg is a suburb of Roodepoort in Gauteng. A piece in the east lies on the opposite side of the N1 Western detour and a similarly little segment on the northwest side of Ontdekkersweg. Maraisburg was based on the ranch Paardekraal and named after the proprietor, Abraham Petrus Marais. As of now in 1904 it was amalgamated with Roodepoort. In the mean time, one Daniel Marais, minister of the NG gathering Burgersdorp, around 1870 found that some youngsters matured 14 to 16 in the region of his ranch had not yet been purified through water. Thusly, the ranch Boorfontein was purchased to fill in as a school and church place thus the town of Maraisburg was worked in 1873.
So as to keep away from perplexity with the more youthful Maraisburg, the town's name was changed to Hofmeyr in 1911 to pay tribute to Onze Jan Hofmeyr. Just during the 1970s was the Dutch Reformed Church's name changed, after Dutch Reformed Church Hofmeyr, rather than Maraisburg. The Dutch Reformed assemblage in Maraisburg, Roodepoort, with its division of the Dutch Reformed gathering Florida named in 1944 Kriel got the opportunity to respect Reverend Abraham Kriel. In the interim, the name Maraisburg lives in the Eastern Cape as the name of the authoritative district of which Hofmeyr is the seat.
