About Zakamensk
Zakamensk is a town and the managerial focal point of Zakamensky District of the Republic of Buryatia, Russia, situated on the Dzhida River 420 kilometers southwest of Ulan-Ude and 8 kilometers from the outskirt with Mongolia. It was established in 1893 as a mining settlement under the name of Gorodok. Mining of the neighborhood tungsten and molybdenum saves started in 1933. Town status was allowed to it in 1944.
It was renamed Zakamensk in 1959, from the Russian expression Zakamen which had been utilized for the district since the 17th century. The word implies past the stones in Russian, alluding to its area past the Chamar-Daban mountains. The town's economy depends principally on the mining and handling of metal minerals, which are then fundamentally transported to smelters in the Ural Mountains. There is street from Zakamensk to Dzhida railroad station, 253 kilometers 157 mi toward the east on the Trans-Mongolian Railway.
