About Severobaykalsk
Severobaykalsk is a town in the Republic of Buryatia, Russia, situated on the northern end of Lake Baikal at the mouth of the Tyya River, 440 kilometers northwest of Ulan-Ude and 490 kilometers upper east of Irkutsk. Severobaykalsk is situated on a level at the northern end of Lake Baikal at the mouth of the Tyya River. Toward the west the town is encompassed by the Baikal Mountains, toward the upper east by the Stanovoy Range. Severobaykalsk is topographically detached, the nearest town is Ust-Kut, in excess of 260 kilometers away.
Like most Soviet-arranged urban communities, the town focus is commanded by five to six story tall structures made of pre-assembled solid boards. Since the northern area of Lake Baikal is in a seismically dynamic locale the standard structure of the tall structures has been adjusted to guarantee more prominent protection from tremors. The principle road of Severobaykalsk is Leningradsky Avenue, which begins at the railroad station and goes through the focal region of the town.
The railroad station is formed like a sail and was planned by draftsmen from Leningrad. Before the railroad station is a landmark to volunteers and laborers from Leningrad who assembled the town. North of the railroad station, along Leningradsky Avenue is the primary square, where the town organization and the Palace of Culture of the railroad specialists are found. Severobaykalsk likewise has a congregation and an exhibition hall devoted to the historical backdrop of the Baikal Amur Mainline.
