About Gura Raului
Gura Raului is the village of the commune with the identical name in Sibiu County, Transylvania, Romania. The Monument of the Romanian Heroes of the First World War. The memorial obelisk is placed in the civic center. It turned into unveiled in 1923 to honor the memory of the Romanian heroes who fell within the First World War, being found out by Ilie Chidu on the initiative of the population of the commune. The architectural ensemble has a height of 3.35 m, on a stone pedestal with marble plates being established an eagle at the top.
On the monument there are the names of 107 Romanian heroes identified and the text "There are 18 unknown heroes from the Romanian navy who died within the battles at the border of our commune in September 1916". According to a lapidary inscription, the year 1202 is the year wherein the existing church "Sfanta Paraschiva" was built. The event isn't always scientifically confirmed and the historic evidence invalidates such an early attestation of the locality, at least on the spot and within the current configuration.
