Elk

Ełk is the capital of Ełk County. It lies on a shore of Ełk Lake, which was shaped by an ice sheet, and is encompassed by woodlands. It is the biggest city, and as indicated by many, the capital of the area of Masuria.

One of its key attractions is chasing, which is completed in broad forests.A previous Old Prussian settlement, the town was first recorded in 1398 around a manor worked by the Teutonic Knights.

The town's name has differently proposed birthplaces. Its German adaptation Lyck is proposed to be gotten from its Old Prussian name, Luks, while another hypothesis holds that the name originates from the Polish word "łęg" which means meadow.It got its town rights in 1445.
