About Caraga
Caraga, formally called the Caraga Administrative Region or simply Caraga Region and targeted as Region XIII, is an administrative region in the Philippines occupying the northeastern phase of the island of Mindanao. The Caraga Region changed into created thru Republic Act No. 7901 on February 23, 1995. The location accommodates 5 provinces: Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands; six towns: Bayugan, Bislig, Butuan, Cabadbaran, Surigao and Tandag; sixty seven municipalities and 1,311 barangays. Butuan is the nearby administrative center.
Caraga is named after the Kalagan humans, a Mansakan subgroup native to the regions of Davao and elements of Caraga who talk the Kalagan languages. The name itself is from kalagan which means that "fierce" or "brave"; from kalag within the native animistic anito religions. Hence, the complete Provincia de Caraga of AD 1622 was called area de gente animosa, this is "region of spirited guys".
