Steigen

Steigen is a municipality in Salten in Nordland. It borders at the municipalities of Hamaroy inside the east and Sorfold within the southeast and south. In the north lies Sagfjorden, within the west Vestfjorden and inside the southwest Folda. Steigen, Hamaroy and Tysfjord are frequently called Nord Salten and in some intermunicipal contexts which includes the HTS municipalities. Steigen has an area of 1007 rectangular kilometers and a population of just over 2 500.

The administration center is Leinesfjord. Other population facilities are Leines, Nordfold, Nordskot and Bogen. Steigen's municipal weapon become adopted by means of the municipal council on October 12, 1988 and shows 3 ox heads on a yellow bottom. Friendship municipality is Podporozje in Leningrad oblast in Russia. Originally, Steigen's presidency district constituted the northern and western elements of the Steigenhalvoya. After a main merger in 1964, the municipality got its present day location. Steigen constituted the land regions north of the watershed from Brenntinden, south of Brennvika, in the southwest, via the Nordfoldeidet and Allmenningsvatnet to Reinkalvtinden.
