About Porirua
Porirua, a town in the Wellington Region of the North Island of New Zealand, is one of the 4 towns that represent the Wellington metropolitan area. It almost simply surrounds Porirua Harbour at the southern end of the Kapiti Coast. As of June 2018 Porirua had a populace of fifty six, seven hundred. The name "Porirua" has a Maori basis: it may represent a model of pari-rua, a reference to the 2 hands of the Porirua Harbour. In the 19th century, the call designated a land-registration district that stretched from Kaiwharawhara on the north-west shore of Wellington Harbour northwards to and spherical Porirua Harbour.
The avenue trekking the hill from Kaiwharawhara in the direction of Ngaio and Khandallah still bears the call "Old Porirua Road". In the 19th century, a small European agreement grew up, partly because of the want for a ferry across the harbour. At the time a small Maori agreement already existed. The Eighteen Eighties and Eighteen 1990s noticed the installed order of the Porirua Lunatic Asylum at the hill south-west of Porirua village. Following the Mental Defectives Act of 1911, the Asylum have become Porirua Mental Hospital.
