About Otaki
Otaki is a metropolis in the Kapiti Coast District of the North Island of New Zealand, located half manner among the capital metropolis Wellington, 70 km to the southwest, and Palmerston North, 70 km to the northeast. In the 2013 census the metropolis's population becomes 5,778, a moderate growth since the 2006 census. Since the early 19th century, the region has been domestic to Maori of the Ngati Raukawa iwi who had migrated from the Kawhia region from approximately 1819, beneath the leadership of Te Rauparaha.
They had supplanted the Rangitane and Muaupoko people. At the request of Te Rauparaha, missionaries Henry Williams and Octavius Hadfield visited the location in December and Hadfield opened the first challenge inside the Wellington Region at Otaki. At the close by Raukawa marae is the Rangiatea Church, the original of which became finished in 1851. Burnt down in 1995, it became completely rebuilt by using 2003. The network has marae, affiliated with the iwi of Ngati Raukawa ki te Tonga and its hapu. Te Pou o Tainuiassembly house are affiliated with the hapu of Ngati Kapumanawawhiti. Raukawa Marae and assembly residence are affiliated with the hapu of Ngati Koroki, Ngati Maiotaki and Ngati Pare.
