Otago
About Otago
Otago is a area of New Zealand in the south of the South Island administered by using the Otago Regional Council. It has an area of about 32,000 rectangular kilometres, making it the country's 0.33 largest local authorities area. Its population became 229,2 hundred in June 2018. The name "Otago" is an Anglicisation of "Otakou", the call of the Māori village near the doorway to the harbour. The exact meaning of the time period is disputed, with not unusual translations being "isolated village" and "location of pink earth", the latter regarding the reddish-ochre clay that's not unusual in the place around Dunedin.
"Otago" is also the old name of the European agreement on the Otago Harbour, mounted by way of the Weller Brothers in 1831, which lies near the present day harbourside network of Otakou. The location later became the focal point of the Otago Association, an offshoot of the Free Church of Scotland, super for its excessive-minded adoption of the precept that regular people, now not the landowner, must select the ministers.
